Tufa stone bed which held a sarcophagus

Stone "benches" on either side of the room are actually the ledges which held sarcophagi, so be careful of your juju quota so you don't piss off the spirits.

These sarcophagi were carved from "living" stone, meaning the rock was excavated rather than installed. Sort of like a sculptor making a house underground by chipping away everything that is not a house.

And no, I'm pretty sure that the flourescent light was not already there when this necropolis was first discovered!
