The Capitoline Museums

The Capitoline Museums are found in the Piazza del Campidoglio, which also houses the Palazzo Senatorio and which, we learned on our city tours of the past week, was redesigned by Michelangelo to contain and direct the space to the West of the Forum.

The museum's name is somewhat confusing, since there are three buildings in the piazza, one of which is officially called the Museo Capitolino (singular). The building facing it is the Palazzo dei Conservatori, which is part of the "Musei Capitolini" (plural). We visited both buildings as part of today's drawing class...
